Cracked Teeth

Cracked teeth are common in endodontics and can cause pain or lead to tooth loss if untreated. The severity of the crack determines the treatment:

  1. Craze Lines: Superficial enamel cracks that usually don’t cause pain and don’t need treatment.
  2. Fractured Cusp: A crack in the chewing surface, often treated with a crown if the pulp isn’t affected.
  3. Split Tooth: A severe crack that may require root canal therapy or extraction if the damage is extensive.
  4. Vertical Root Fracture: A crack extending from the root, often requiring root canal treatment or extraction, depending on severity.

Endodontic treatment, such as root canal therapy, is necessary if the crack reaches the pulp. Prompt treatment is key to saving the tooth and preventing further damage.
